Bedlands Gate & The Lakes

Paul & I had a great flight today from Rufforth to Bedlands Gate, 30 mph headwind all the way so it was a 2 hour flight to get there, up at 5,000 feet to miss the turbulence & low cloud.  Nice cuppa with the lovely couple at Bedlands, and a quick turnaround...

Learn to fly at Rufforth and you’ll open up a fantastic chapter in your life – it doesn’t matter whether its a fixed wing, flex wing or gyrocopter, you’ll find a new thrill and sense of freedom shared by all of our York Flying Club members, but not experienced by most other people.

Microlight Training

We don’t currently have permanent microlight training at Rufforth, so if you’re a qualified flying instructor looking for a new home, why not get in contact with Steven Becket, the airfield operator, to discuss the opportunity? Call 07802 435158 to discuss.

The Gyrocopter Experience

The Gyrocopter Experience is a network of Gyro Flying Schools in the UK, with Rufforth East being the first and their head office. The team have an ambition to get as many people as possible to experience the thrill of flying in a Gyrocopter.

Rufforth Airfield East is 2 miles from York, on the B1224 road from York to Wetherby. The entrance to the airfield is off the B1224, just on the east edge of Rufforth vilage.

From the York ring road, take the B1224 signposted Rufforth/Wetherby and look for the large green building on the left (K&J Logistics) and it is then the 2nd turning on your left (just beyond the entrance to Harewood Whin)
Approaching from Wetherby on the B1224 go through Rufforth village and look for the second entrance on your right. The entrance is shared with the Rufforth Playing Fields Association – pass the tennis courts and you will see the sign and buildings ahead of you.
Please don’t confuse us with the Ouse Gliding Club, which is on Rufforth Airfield WEST, and is accessed from the Rufforth – Askham Richard Road.
